This French clock dates from the turn of the 19th century, around 1890-1900. It is a medium sized 8 day table/desk clock made from Oak wood. The main body of clock is solid Oak with the shaped top of Walnut wood veneer. The case has been refinished using Shellac, the wood finish as originally used. This is most probably how the clock looked when new. The dial is white enameled porcelain. The movement is by Japy Freres a very famous French clockmaker of the 19th century. The clock strikes the hours and half hours on a gong. The movement has been fully restored with new mainsprings (from Germany) and functions almost like new.
